Ingredients to make a passion fruit margarita

Where does the margarita cocktail come from?

The history of the margarita is unclear, there are quite a few theories of where and when it was invented.

The chances are that it’s Mexican. says David Wondrich who’s a cocktail historian.

He says that it’s very closely related to a drink called the Daisy, and Margarita is Spanish for daisy.

Whoever invented it and wherever it comes from, we’re glad they did because we love a good margarita!

What is better in a margarita, Cointreau or triple sec?

For many people, it all depends on alcoholic and expensive you want your passion fruit margarita to be.

Cointreau is a quality smooth orange flavored liqueur, it’s more expensive and is 40% whereas triple sec is a less expensive and not as high-quality orange liqueur, the alcohol content varies from as little as 15% up to 40%.

Fresh lime juice vs bottled

It has to be fresh lime juice all the way!

If you want a passion fruit margarita that tastes vibrant, fresh and full of flavor then you really shouldn’t use bottled lime juice, trust us on this one!

You’ll also need a lime wedge to help salt your glass rim, so that’s another advantage of using fresh lime.

How does this differ from the classic margarita cocktail recipe?

A classic margarita drink will use tequila, triple sec or Cointreau and fresh lime juice.

For our refreshing passion fruit margaritas, we’ve added Passoa, which is a delicious passion fruit liqueur.

Will I need passion fruit juice to make this?

Not in our recipe you don’t. We don’t use passion fruit juice because we get the flavor from Passoa, which is a passion fruit liqueur.

If you wanted to make your cocktail less boozy, then you could use fresh passion fruit juice, it’s entirely up to you.

You could even add passion fruit syrup for an extra sweet taste.

Do I have to use fresh passion fruits?

No, you don’t have to. If you haven’t got any, then you won’t be missing out on flavor.

We used them for the garnish on our delicious cocktail, you can find them at most larger grocery stores these days.

Do I need ice to make margaritas?

We didn’t include ice in the actual drink, but we did use ice cubes to shake the ingredients within our cocktail shaker, which helps to cool down your drink.

If you want a frozen margarita, then you’ll need crushed ice. You then put all of the ingredients, including a handful of ice cubes in a blender and blitz them.

Then you’ll be pouring your margaritas with the crushed ice incorporated.

Using a margarita mix doesn’t actually save much time either when you consider you’ll have made your passion fruit margarita in just 4 minutes!

How do I store this?

In the unlikely event that you don’t drink your passion fruit cocktail, it can be stored in the fridge.

Just make sure that you keep it in an airtight container and your margarita will be good to drink for 2 weeks.

Can I make ahead?

You most certainly can, just mix it and store it in your refrigerator until it’s time to pour. Just make sure that you give it a good stir before serving.

Being able to big-batch-make this passion fruit margarita means that it’s the perfect party cocktail and great if you’re looking for a different drink for Cinco de Mayo celebrations..

What are the best glasses to serve this in?

Naturally, we’re going to say a margarita glass is the best one to serve your passion fruit margarita in but not everybody has one in their cupboards.

You could easily use a wide rimmed cocktail glass, rocks glass or how about something a little different and serving your fun passion fruit cocktail in a mason jar?
